Yea what happen... Inquiry ears want to know? E! channel did a behind the scenes at Good Times and Janet D'ubois(Wilona) revealed that when she was first casted on the show, Esther Rolle did not want her there. Matter of fact, Esther said that she refuse to take the 'Florida' role if Wilona was involved. Apparently, the producer, Norman Lear, who was also produced 'All In The Family' and 'Maude', talked Esther into staying. I can't remember nor do I recall Wilona addressing why Esther was hostile to her but obviously, it was something that happened before either of them made the big time. Esther was very staunch in her position about positive roles for African Americans in TV and perhaps, Wilona was the type to take any role thrown her way. I have the E! channel episode on tape. I'll re-watch it again and post the correct info. Estherwas probably just plain jealous she hated on JJ too lol and in the case of JJ she had every reason they made his character so buffoonish. it was alright for a little bit that he was being funny but it got stale.

Ask away!!Hey Kas! Long time, no font! What's happening? |
Not a whole lot!! Just hanging. Good to see ya!! Bees, I would really like to continue this convo about Chi-Town. Never know, we may know some of the same folks. My mother worked for Mr. Johnson for years before he passed away and I know she came in contact with lots of folks. Did you attend high school in Chicago; if so which one?? Interesting that we both left Chicago for Southern pastures!! Didn't mean to jack the post, but you don't see folks mention Maywood, IL often!!

I knew a few people that worked for Johnson. I probably know a whole lot of folk that you know. ;D I went to St Elizabeth High School on 41st and Michigan and Roosevelt University. I have never liked Chicago. I would go to Birmingham and Detroit every summer. I had no trouble when it was time to leave Detroit...it was almost like Chicago. But Lawd when it was time to leave Bham...I would be laid out in the floor kicking and screaming til my parents let me stay. This went on til I got grown. ;D It's just somethiing about the south that I just love. I don't think I'll be in the ATL too long...I think I would enjoy BHam better.

Ok . . . I graduated from Lane Tech over on Western & Addison. I used to come to the South during the summers also; Mississippi. I was always so intrigued by the warm weather and the fact that they served hot lunches in their school cafeterias. I remember when I was in grade school I used to cry if I had to eat lunch in the school cafeteria; it was horrid to a little kid back then, LOL!! I had other reasons for leaving Chi-Town; the cold weather right up there in the top five reasons, I was determined not to shovel another lick of snow.
