OK Molly, but which do you like better, the original version or the one w/o the music? Andy I would have to say the original version. That bass on the intro I love it!

This is one of my favorite quotes. I agree davidfan David was the Best of the Best. He stood out in that talented group of men. Paul,Eddie and Melvin are the men I am refering to. Sorry no Otis. ;D ;D ;D ;D Well I can't argue the truth ... lol ... I also love that quote ... It is the truth ... Whenever I am doing something ... And WANT TO DO IT RIGHT ... I remember that quote which reminds me not to do it half assed ... and actually work ... ;D

Dang! Im finding everything today. This is a portion of a interview between emp and Smokey about "My Girl"
Do you still write continuously?
All the time, man. Every day basically I'm writing something, a melody or a phrase or something will come and I'll jot it down. I have so many little scraps of paper and so many little unfinished things that, you know, I can't even tell you.
When you're writing a song do you have any idea, and not just with "My Girl," but with any song, that it's going to be a hit or is it something that even you can't figure out?
I didn't think that "My Girl" would become what it has become because I don't think like that. But I got a certificate from ASCAP saying it's a standard now. So, I didn't look at it like that at that time, but I did think it was a good song. And, I did think that it was going to be a hit, because I had a whole plan when I did that. I had been working with the Temptations and I wanted so much to have a smash hit for them. The first hit that I ever really had for them was "The Way You Do the Things You Do," on which I used Eddie Kendricks voice for the lead singer.
The Temptations had four or five guys in there who could sing lead, and I knew that David Ruffin was a sleeping giant, man. His voice was just one of those voices that if I ever got the right song for him I felt like it was going to be a big hit. So I wrote "My Girl" specifically for his voice.
I'm sure Smokey isn't counting O as a lead singer!

Mrs. Molly can you imagine O singing 'MY Girl'. What a funny thought the last song I heard from him was "Sail Away" and that crap was sad....

I crack up when I hear him on "Cloud Nine". Smokey wrote the lyrics to "My Girl". But Ruffin made the song a hit. Smokey knew what he was doing. I was impressed that the song is now a standard.

But he rarely says its because of David's vocals. He gives most of the credit for that songs success to Smokey. Smokey did write a great song, but I have heard other people sing My Girl. David Ruffin's voice is what made that song the hit it was. ;D

That's the very reason I can't enjoy Stay. It's a nice song...but when it gets to the My Girl vamp...it takes the air out of my balloon! Here is a song that Ruff made a huge hit and Otis is still riding the hair off that particular horse. Instead he wants to make money off The Classic's legacy. No matter who sings what song...David's name will always be attatched to it...which is more than money can buy!

Hello Bees: Otis had as much to do with making My Girl a huge hit, as I did in making Clinton President. I may have been around when Clinton ran for office, and Otis may have been around when Smokie wrote it and David sang it, but that doesn't mean either one of us had any impact whatsoever. What gets me angry is that (1)the big "O" can't give credit where credit is due, and (2) "O" wants people to believe he had something important to do with My Girl being so great.

That's right Andy Hell O couldn't even get the Choreography right. Bumping into folks and such. O can't be honest enough to say Smokey wrote a great song but David Ruffin made it the hit it was and is.
