From the pages Motown Message Board Subcomandante TT-Poster Since the Select boards are down (many of you no doubt got our email blast, and I expect everything will be resolved in the next few days), I decided to wander over here for a bit ("often lurking, rarely posting" is my motto).
As one who has been fortunate enough to hear the entire Ruffin release, I can say without equivocation that anyone -- *anyone* -- who is a fan of soul music will be astonished at how this record could have gone unreleased, and HW and Field Ops and the Assorted Minions who have brought this package together have done Mr. Ruffin's memory proud.
We were able to engage the services of a Grammy-award winning designer to do the art for the disc (you might recall the "Beg Scream and Shout: The Big Ol' Box of 60s Soul" box set for which he won the Grammy), and the sound of the disc is jaw-droppingly good.
All I can say is that, as Subcomandante of Select, I am proud and honoured to inaugurate our Motown Select line with releases of this quality (and I'm including the Syreeta here as well). There's more, much more, where this came from, and we're mining as fast as we can. Subcomandante TT-Poster
One other thing that came up.
We picked Friday as a "release" day, as it allowed our production people to go off-cycle from all the other Tuesday releases and, with any luck, relieve some of the strain on deadlines. In point of fact, Select releases start shipping about seven days after they are received by our distributor, which is quite frequently prior to the "release" date.
In any event, as soon as a release is posted, you can pre-order it, and your credit card will not be billed until the album ships.
And boy howdy, do we have a bunch of Motown titles coming this year. Our aim is to keep you in a state of continual (and pleasurable!) amazement. And if there were a way to fit in a fourth shift, we would.
