I have spent the last hours comparing available ISP numbers from my board, emails and message boards that previously posted them, (I saved) - I will never disclose what I have found, but I do offer a word of caution - be certain you know exactly who you are talking to and sharing information with.

Drex, what I find even more interesting is that if a person is using AOL, then it is hard to pinpoint who exactly it is. AOL does not supply everyone with it's own unique number. One night, everyone that posted from AOL had the same IP numbers. I used to be concerned about this, but now, I don't give a hill of beans about it. If worse comes to worst, I will notify the proper authorities and let them do their job. Some posters like to use multi monikers...let them...cuz we still know who they are. I can understand your position because of your investigation. It's just good to be 'aware' of who you are communicating with.

hey beez, I am not very skilled in aol, but I can view sources at DRU (yahoo) and compare to "anonymous" emails and post I received and to old numbers and emails I received and post on other boards (that do - or did post numbers at one time) I saved them. I found three that matched - it was who I suspected . never, never, never throw anything away.

I know Drex, we should be mindful of this.

Well, Drex, unfortunately, you found out the hard way. I tried to explain this to you several months back & you called me 'bitter'. This was what I was trying to get through to you. You have understand that since we can't see/hear each other, you are relying on the word of the person you're communicating via net with. I've had to realize the hard way that people are not who they say they are. I always look at the good side of a person but once they betray your trust, you become more cautious. It's even worse when you confide & share personal info only see it materialize on the web by somebody you thought you could trust. It's not a great feeling to be led on or stabbed in the back. I know because I've been there......one time too many. In the end, I guess the best thing to do is just practice great caution with whom you've come in contact with. The net is no different than the real world, when you come to think of it.

You are right Common the net is a mirror of the real world. Get to know the person before you open your doors to them. Snakes will always show their faces regardless if they are on the net.

Common, you are correct. I didn't understand why discussions went down so quickly and negitively, I can have adversaries - yet - I like to keep the enemy list low. (It is reserved) I apologize for that reference, deeply. Life is a big classroom in which we learn.

How correct you are QNDF, in reference to snakes - Over a year ago, I trusted a person who sent me important email addresses via email. When I wouldn't become an exclusive person in reference to contacts and information & when this person realized I was in contact with these people, he/she foolishly implied to the people that I stole his/her email address book. (duh? I ain't that good) My choice was to: 1. send these people his/her the emails he/she sent me and prove to them he/she a lair and risk them and others thinking I would reveal my sources & confidentiality or 2. let it go and allow them to realize (one year later)they haven't seen their emails or information in print. And, they will not - And, in reference to trust, it paid off. Sadly, the snake is still in the grass, causing havoc.

It is a shame we have to get bitten before we fully understand the person motives, I guess you call that a lesson learned.

Since everybody is telling their "snake" story let me share mine. Someone gave my email address to Genna. I obviously trusted this person to some degree otherwise they would not have had my addy. I treat people on the internet the same as I do in real life. I try not to pre judge anybody. I put everybody on the top shelf to begin with. Then as time goes by everybody finds the shelf they belong on. That is why I have a very small group of people that I communicate with. In person, via email or by phone. These are the people I trust..It's a short list.

P.S. I don't like snakes.Period. I don't feed them I don't play with them ,and I don't try to "charm" them. Once I discover I am in the presence of a snake. I'm gone.
