Board,
Why Louis Farrakhan was at DER's funeral, was he trying to seek publicity? I read Farrakhan asked him to speak at his funeral. Was this request in writing? He also said DER called him to learn more about Islam.... MYDER and Islam nope,, I am not buying this... sorry, I can't make the connection... O yes... MYDER no...

Hi Queenie This is abe, what you're asking are interesting questions, whatever David did or was planning to do, i would hope he would still be singing his classics and new songs today.I read that Joe Tex converted to Islam in the early 70's and did some preaching for the Nation of Islam and retired from singing but the NOi allowed him to return to singing to promote Islam and then he had a big hit with"Ain't Gonna Bump No More with No Big fat woman"Maybe the reported exaggerated the story you know what journalists do.

Qnew I don't know if Ruffin was thinking of converting to Islam. But I do believe he had conversations with Farrakhan.I truly believe that Ruffin was seeking some spiritual remedy for his drug addiction. I also believe he asked Farrakhan to officiate at his funeral. I don't think the family would have allowed him to otherwise. I wish I had his eulogy in print. It offended some people, but it was loaded with truth.

What... did Louis Farrakhan speak the word?? LOL@@ I'm glad that Farrakhan spoke at David's funeral. He doesn't mince words, whether you agree or disagree with his ideology. I find it hard to believe that David didn't know who Farrakhan was & he would just show up like that. The Minister was the one who mentioned that David was offered drugs & money from a record company that he didn't name. Not to mentioned he told some folks that weren't dressed appropriately to leave! LOL!! Here's part of the comment from Tony's book: "Even if this were a wedding, a joyous occasion, you do not enter the House of the Lord like that. All you women need to get up and get out of here with your sleeveless and backless costumes. I don't have to point you out, you know who you are."
The church started emptying out in a hurry, and if anyone didn't get up fast enough they were being told to get up. "You in the eighth row, please. Come on, sister, get up. You don't come in here like that." About David: "David could buy things, but he could not buy happiness," he said. He claimed that DR had once called him to say that he was being held captive in Arizona by some thugs from an unnamed major record company, and that he desperately needed help. "He was reaching out for help."
"He was more than a song, more than an entertainer. He was a divine being put in flesh and blood that has left from among us. But we who are left behind must not just clap our hands & weep and mourn, for he is out of trouble. You are still in it."
The stars, you like to look up at, the Honorable Louis Farrakhan told the crowd, are some of the most miserable people in the world. These people are nothing. They are the new slaves. These people, he said, have been through so much misery-they've been robbed, they've been abused, they've been enslaved. "These people are in hell. You don't know the trouble they've got."
He spoke the truth.

I think Ruffin sought Farrakan because he was seriously trying to change his life. Anytime someone turns to the NOI, he is almost always successful in overcoming his demons...the success rate is very high. Farrakan probably would have protected him from those record company thugs too.

BTW, did she contribute any money to David's funeral or help to get his body out of the morgue in Philly?? *silence* Well, that's just how much we care if she didn't like what the Minister said!

I think that's interesting too, as Abe B., mentioned that other entertainers, including rappers, have turned to the NOI whenever they need support.
