I have stated on this board, time and time again, that while we are interested in knowing who David was, we are also concerned that the music he left behind is not neglected. Though his solo work had moderate success, I believe it had shades of brillance and was unfairly, IMO, ignored by critics and Motown. To me, it is unfair for David to be only characterized as the Temptations' lead singer and the volatile boyfriend of Tammi Terrell. Of course, David's relationship with her has always been the focus in Motown's rumor mill and granted, there are some things that need to be put to rest. If anything has been discussed here, it evolved out of conversations regarding allegations made in Tony's and genna's book.
Common and all
I would like to apologize to the board I feel like I have got this started and it was not the reason I posted. It was not my intent to "defend myself" there is nothing to defend I just wanted to set the record straight as it relates to DS and the time frames and that's been done and so I hope we can lay it to rest and move on from here. I think there is a big difference between facts and opinions and presumptions.
As for my choice of dress really the whole thing is kind of funny I agree. If my fashion sense is the worst criticism someone can come up with about me I think I'm probably doing pretty good.
It was certainly not my intent to appear as anything I was not or disrespect anyone and I don't think I did.
I've never posted on any public forum regarding DR this is the first. You are right I did just jump in because I was kind of surprised at what I was reading and it wasn't till later I even noticed the date. Respectfully, It was not my intent to join the forum to discuss DR. with the thousands of people DR knew and the many stories they have I don't think anyone is interested in walking down memory lane with someone else. Plus, DR was a very diverse, talented and multifaceted individual and I sure don't feel qualified to tell anyone who he was, what he thought etc. nor do I want to be classified in any group professing to possess such knowledge. Thus that is why I have never entered into any forums in the past or publicly discussed DR.
I can blabber on though when you get me started.
I felt fortunate to have known him like so many others and I agree there have always been unfair/inaccurate rumors surrounding our Mr. R.
I know I may be asking things that have already been discussed but maybe we could bring some old subjects up, dust them off, and discuss them again? I agree I think DR's solo works are some of his best I'm especially fond of slow dance, heavy love come to mind. Why do you all think that his solo offerings weren't recognised like his Temp materials. Record Companies not promoting? Radio? I know he had stated he felt he had been blackballed by Motown and held to a contract more to destroy his career then further it. I do know DR from my observation was not that bad about showing up for shows I can't say regarding the motown era but the rap he got that he was out using was not consistent with what I saw. It was usually due to his not getting paid or an accounting of his money. Maybe not the best way to handle things but seemed to be his way.
