Drexell, I hope you don't mind but I posted your link over on Soulful Detroit. Let's see what the response will be. That is fine Common...[Beez] It is my understanding that the current bid is $11,789.73...that is how I read it. But, if it is sold, at the least Leland's can disclose who the seller was, "if" the children wish to know.

It's sad that it's being sold. I just don't think they would sell such an item. Perhaps it fell into the wrong hands and they are the ones behind it. I would like to know who had possession of it at the time of his death. I would like to know who contacted Leland's Auction.

When does the bidding end? All I see is the item's description.

I do not know Beez, the way I am reading it, the bid opened/began in May 2004, there are 9 bids and the price that they are shooting for is $13 plus and that currently it is at $11 plus. I was thinking that it the bid is closed and it is sold then, other than for advertisement, Leland's would have taken it all off by now. I am only guessing.

I am not seeing it that way, Drex. From my deduction, the reserve was 5,000...which has been surpassed. If the bid is open...there should be a beginning date and an ending date. If the 13 thou was realized that means somewhere aolng the line, the bidding was closed. If it's realized, then, it's already happened! But what do I know about auctions other than eBay? It's confusing to say the least.

I know absolutely nothing about auctions. But I took "amount realized" to mean that was the "selling" price. Somehow I can't see his kids selling that award. I know that Ruffin was very proud of it. I just wonder whose hands it fell into. There have been many instances where Emmy Awards,Oscars,Super Bowl Rings ect have been pawned or sold by the owners because they needed the money. This could have very well been the case with this award. OR because Ruffin moved around alot it could have been left somewhere. Who ever wound up with it realized it was worth money to start the bid at $5000.00 If the family sold it then they must have needed the money because they also had to be proud of this symbol of his accomplishments. Selling this award doesn't change the fact that he was/is and will always be a Hall Of Fame Inductee. I wish I could have bought it.

So, if it is sold, and only if at this point "if" the children are concerned, they could either contact Leland's or the people of the places he lived from the night he recieved the award until his death. I may be wrong, but, I do not think it was ever in Phila, just a gut feeling.

Even to his children?

Drex since Lelands is acting on behalf of the seller to keep them anonymous would they give that info out? Even to his children? I do not know Ms. Molly. Under "normal" conditions that award should be considered part of the David Ruffin Estate. If his children did not do this, and they wish to know who did, then they could possibly take legal action to request Lelands disclose that information. If it were not a family member, surely Leland's has a standard "proof of ownership" criteria that was submitted before they would agree to auction such an award. If Mr. David gave the award to someone for safekeeping, they should have returned it to the children. If he "gave" it to them to have, and they could prove it, they are $13 + richer minus Leland's cut.
