Common...I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know why cowgirl came here trying to chastise us on something that doesn't warrant it. As far as the legitimacy of Jr...we all know that he is a legal heir...not an issue. As far as legitimacy I am speaking specifically of Genna who only claimed the name after waking up from a dream...after Ruffin's death. If Sandra can move on...why can't Genna. I don't understand how a baby mama can act as if she is the widow Ruffin. On second thought I refuse to discuss this issue any more...it is a moot point. Any idiot can see the woman is using the Ruffin name for personal gain. Get a job Genna...sell Avon or something. ;D I would hate to leave this earth and my only claim to fame is being a baby mama and crying about abuse for over 40 years. Clearly she hasn't moved on. I will pray that she gets the healing she needs so she can do something for herself.

I agree with you BeesNVMe. Genna has a demon spirit which is hell bent on destroying a man who was truly anointed to bless this world with his voice. Why can't she let him rest in peace and dignity. Genna get a life.

Bees and Common,
Again, I have to say I agree with you.
I would like to add:
I am not surprised that David Ruffin became successful despite his childhood because there are many successful people who had to overcome tremendous obstacles to achieve their goals. Here are some examples: Oprah Winfrey (billionaire) Clarence Thomas (Supreme Court Justice) Frederick Douglas (ex-slave who became an author) Malcolm X. I could go on and on, but I think I've made me point.
Ruffin was a very talented man who worked hard to achieve his goals just like the people I mentioned above whether you like them or not. David could have walked away from singing when things did not go his way. But, he never gave up, and no matter what life threw at him, he continued. So with characteristics like that, I would expect nothing but success from DR.
Common law' status does not necessarily mean that relationship is 'common law' under the legal system. The interesting thing about 'common law' according to the law, is that it goes way beyond co-habitation. There are several requirements needed to establish a common law relationship depending on the jurisdiction. Two people simply living together do not automatically create a common law relationship. That is a myth. Some states(I think Michigan is one) don’t even recognize common law relationships.
Also, I am not quite sure how someone can legally claim 'common law' status when his/her alleged 'spouse' has outside relationships at the same time. I don't believe that is possible. I would think existence of those outside relationships could possible nullify the 'common law' relationship.

I have made the following change to my comment b/c I omitted the first part of the sentence in the beginning paragraph. I hope it now makes sense.
Someone verbally claiming 'common law' status does not necessarily mean that relationship is 'common law' under the legal system. The interesting thing about 'common law' according to the law, is that it goes way beyond co-habitation.
