Things We Have To Do is an interesting song. I can hear David really putting something deep into his expression here. When I was searching for it, another song came up by his brother Jimmy, called Foolish Thing To Do. I don't want to get too far off topic here but this is worth checking out. A different arrangement from the norm. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfLE1yuyNbM

Rufferino,
1st time hearing this song. You're right the arrangement is different. It does not sound like a Motown production. The song has the feel of a 1980s slow jam that would have been played during the ‘Quiet Storm’. Do you know when it was recorded?
Also, I am curious to know whose version of 'Who’s Loving You’ do you prefer.

Don't know when Foolish Thing To Do was recorded but I'll try to find out. Since Wyldeflower is a big Jimmy Ruffin fan and lives in England, maybe she knows? As far Who's Loving You - hands down, David's version. I'm pretty sure his was the first version I heard. I think Smokey put a lot of feeling into his version, but the instrumentation doesn't compare favorably with David's version. Little Michael Jackson does a good job with the song, and that J5 arrangement is great too. But to me it's an adult's song, and I kinda can't get past hearing a little kid sing it. Bottom line - after hearing David's voice, and then listening to Smokey's voice, well....it's like having a luscious chocolate buttercream frosting filled layer cake with some delicious Kona coffee...and then having a Snickers bar with a cup of water. Ya know whud I mean?? If I hadn't already had the cake, the Snickers bar & the water might have been ok, but there's no going back. ;D

Hey citystars that link didn't work, but here's another one to One Last Kiss. Could be you didn't copy the entire URL, sometimes that happens. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdKNsYIWeGYYeah, David is a TOTAL heartbreaker, that's for sure. Ruffan7- re: Who's Loving You - listen to Smokey's version after David's and tell me what you think..... here it is - www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaX7f0XFmmg&feature=relatedI wonder if we can get Debbie to weigh in on this thread? I like Smokey's version, but DR version is like the energy in a attentive meditation. That what his voice do to my soul.

I had not heard this Jimmy ruffin song i really wasnt keen it was without soul as far as my tastes go it was more like cabaret music ..Jimmy has a lovely voice not as good as davids but in a different way he is very smooth and mellow and this song didnt do him justice ..He still looked mega lush though.. ;D I am sorry i cant make up my mind who i like singing "whose Loving You " Best , As Smokey also has a unique voice I may have liked davids version better if he didnt have the rest of the Temptations singing in the background as it is i will have to sit on the fence as i am undecided.. I dont like Michael jackson so i didnt consider him at all..

It's great to hear different opinions and tastes. I know I can relate to what Jimmy's talking about in the song, and I happen to love the bluesy arrangement with the strings and all. It does have a much different style and feel from Motown or northern soul. I found this out for citystars: "In 1986 he collaborated with the British pop group Heaven 17, singing "A Foolish Thing To Do" and "My Sensitivity" on a 12" EP record." So you definitely got the right decade on that one! But back to David! Wyldeflower what do you think of this one? www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsWz6Qxfjqo&feature=related

I wouldnt say Wild Honey was in my top 10 but he sings it well as usual i cant fault his voice as its allways consistant and special.. I like this song but his brother had a hit with it as well not sure what year Jimmy sang it but its on one of his cds i own and i remember it well from when i was stomping around in the discos.. I think David has the edge on this one over his brother as his voice carrys feeling and passion..Where Jimmys voice is very mellow and smooth..
