I don't think his family want to get involved in a book at this time. Only a family oriented book would be sufficient to me. I wanna hear the real deal.

Any idea why they do not want to get involved in a book?

I think its because of how things happened before with the stories by--- oatass, genna and books that followed that talked down about him. That's just my guess

Yes, I think that's why I prefer the title David Ruffin: Stories of Love From Family and Friends.
That lets the reader know right up front that this will not be another book denigrating DR.

All of the titles are really creative and very good. However, after reading Bettye LaVette's book titled A Woman Like Me where she mentions David several times, I like David Ruffin: Stories of Love From Family and Friends and David Ruffin: The Man, The Myth, The Legend .
The book is a quick read and very interesting. I won't offer too many details about the book, but Bettye does call David a friend. She also calls him one of the best singers to come out of Motown. Although his death is mentioned, BL does not harp on it in a judgmental way, instead she elegantly mentions it.
Rufferino, I agree a David Ruffin book is definitely needed. I hope his daughters and/or his ex-wife writes one very soon.

If anybody on this board reading this knows the family, please let them know that we are talking about this again! It's so important to let them know that people still care and love David and want to feel that there is some balance in the stories that are being put out. Why let the other side get all the press?

Rufferino,
Well said. There are people out here who are still alive and who also actually knew, liked and loved David as a friend. Unfortunately, the negative Ruffin stories always overshadow the positive ones. But hopefully, if a book is ever written about only him, that will change because some of these non-Motown people would be willing to share their stories.
After reading Bettye's Book, I could tell she was really fond of David. He is even inlcluded in a line of one of her songs titled the The Ballard of Bettye Lavette.
She and David go way back. City Stars

CityStars, Also well said! Yes, if the book is only about David, then it would have to be balanced. I am going to find Betty's book and read it, based on your suggestion. Maybe she would be willing to co-author a book with Cheryl or all of the children...I'm getting excited now. The book could be handled so many different ways....chapters with exclusive interviews with each of his children. Or stories and anecdotes sprinkled through out the book written from Betty's POV.... chapters of interviews with other friends and lovers who still love DR... THEN a movie or TV series could be made from this book!! Dang! All we need is $$$$! Crowdfunding, anyone?

I dunno. It just seems like David's family wasn't too enthused to write a book. I felt they would of written one sooner if they were interested.

Rufferino,
Bettye LaVette's book is a good read and I do hope you enjoy it. I really hope a balanced book is eventually written about only David soon and perhaps BL could and would somehow be willing to be involved in the project.
DC,
Maybe you’re right. Who knows? I just hope one day someone with good intentions writes an interesting and historical book about DR. However, I really want it to be the family because they have a truly fascinating story to tell. I wish his ex-wife Sandra would write a book just about the racisim David encountered when he travelled to the Jim Crow south. The historical stories she could tell are worth gold.
