Hello Palace,
Below please find an article about Ruffin suing Motown. It was featured in the 11/8/1968 edition of Boss Soul Newspaper.
Ruffin Sues Motown
Detriot: David Ruffin is suing Motown because he claims they will not allow him to record or perform.
The ex-Temptation is asking for three things:
1) He wants Motown to void a personal artist contract which binds him to the label until 1975.
2) David is asking an accounting of the money allegedly owed plus damages.
3) Ruffin wants an injunction against the record company which would prevent interference with him working elsewhere.
He claims in his suit that Motown replaced him with Dennis Edwards because he incurred the displeasure of the comapny when he demanded an account of his income. Plus, he asked to be paid immediately after each performance.
David added that since Motown also took care of his income tax each year, he really has no idea exactly how much money he earned from the company.
Junius Griffin, assistant to BG, Jr., reported that Motown has "no comment" on the suit filed by David Ruffin and were were served by an attorney representing Mr. Ruffin. However, the allegations brought against Motown through litigation will summarily be answered through litigation" he added.
