Hey Molly! Yes, it was pretty evident that Eddie's voice had been considerably damaged by years of smoking. His vocal quality had really diminished by the mid-80's. If you watch & listen to the Hall & Oates At The Apollo Footage, you can clearly hear how weak Eddie's voice is. Isn't it kind of weird that despite that David had his drug problems, his voice was still intact? I find that quite interesting.

:)I was so happy when David quit smoking. He use to smoke Lark cigarettes. In fact we talked one evening in late 1980, and he said I quit drinking, I have quit smoking, I can quit anything I want to. Sadly!!!

Jody what year was this? Because David would stop both for aminute but he would pick them back up. David was still a smoker and a drinker 3 days before his untimely death.

::)The years that I was with David, he had quit drinking and smoking. I can't see him stopping just because of me, or anyone for that matter. I never lived with David, I wouldn't, but in all of the times after 1980 or so, he did not drink or smoke. That was up until the last time I saw him. I talked to him before he passed, naturally, I could not see if he was drinking or smoking on the phone. It is sooooooooooo strange to me that no matter what I say, you say it isn't true, or at best, you question me. I was a smoker, but he never smoked around me after 1980 or so. I quit myself about 8 years ago. I have been in Parkside many times, he has been in my homes many times. I have been at shows as well as my kids were there, not once did I see him drink or smoke. If he smoked or drank with you, Your guess is as good as mine his reasons. In fact I still have some of his packs of Lark here. For me, I perfer to think that he did quit, and maybe just backslid occasionally, only to find his self again. Maybe when and if Jimmy writes his book, all these little petty things will be answered. I simply just made a statement as all of us do. The truth as he said it...

:)Molly Marge, you know I don't doubt what you have said. I don't even question what you say der, I just can't understand WHY, no matter what I say, der, you question it...We, including David make and made choices good and bad. I simply said he quit according to what he said to me, and he never smoked or drank in front of me. If you say he did, whoops our David wasn't perfect.

Hi Molly: I just saw your post about Eddie. Everything you say is true. I've thought that he sounded bad at the end. I know he sounded kind of bad at the end of the Reunion Tour, but his eyes still sparkled when he sang. Once in a while his voice would return and he could sound like himself. On the Street Gold tape he sings a little of The Way You Do, and he sounded good. If you compare his last shows in the later years to how strong his vocals were in the 60's and70's you can tell he changed alot. I always hoped David and Eddie had developed a true friendship by the time they got together.

Jody I can understand why you would feel that way. I guess I would too under the same circumstances. But I was not questioning you,I was simply asking you a question. With this post as well as the one to David's children. I was with David from the mid 70's until the late 80's and in that time I had known David to stop smoking and drinking, but like I said before he would start back again. There was a period of 6 to 7 months in that time that we didn't see each other,so of course I could not say that he did not stop. I was estranged from David maybe 2 1/2 years before his death,so of course I can't speak on that time either. I spent 2 days in Philly with David 3 days before he died, and during that time he was doing both. That's why I asked you the uestion. I wasn't doubting what you said David said,I was trying to go back and figure out when. Jody as far as I'm concerned our conflict is over. I won't use this board to insult you. Again when you said you was with David for a time I accepted that,I never doubted that you were. I hope when and if Jimmy does write a book,he will deal with a lot more important issues than David's smoking and drinking habits. I hope you will come to realize that I am very up front in my action's and words. I am not takng a shot at you Jody when I ask a question,or ask for clarification.

Hello Andy My friend......David and Eddie were friends. I believe they really loved and respected each other. Also supported each other. On some footage when they were together it was like you say Eddie smiling prancing singing, and "Our Boy" David harmonizing supporting and helping Eddie get through his song. I agree I don't think Eddie was as tight on the reunion tour as he had been. But a true showman to the end. My ex-husband said Eddie was sobbing like a baby at David's funeral. I believe Eddie,David and Dennis had a true friendship with one another. In some of their performances you can see the mutual admiration and respect they had for each other. Eddie was David's defender while they both were in the Temptations.

Thanks der... I think a sibling book is due...What do you think? It would be so great to hear how it was for them growing up and the rivalry they had going...I am sure you and I both have heard stories, but it would be nice to hear Jimmy's view as well. Also, the real deal about Jimmy and Motown, and his career. That is long overdue...
