Hi Ruffinator: Please tell me more about it. I met Eddie once seperately, too. I even met Otis once. But I'd like to hear about the time you met David.

((((Andy)))) Out of all the Temptations I remember DAVID RUFFIN. I remember him fondly as you do. He and the Temps were performing at the Regal Theatre here in Chicago. I remember (back at that time) the entertainers would come out by the concession stands during intermission. I remember David because he was standing out in the lobby by the concession stand with his do-rag on his head, smoking a cigarette and we teenagers went up to him and asked for his autograph and he WAS REAL NICE. This is when they had just started out - "The Way You Do the Things You Do" was rockin the charts!. He asked us what grade ya'all in? Whose your favorite group? (You know we told him THE TEMPTATIONS!) I remember that we got loud when he asked that we said "THE TEMPTATIONS!" and he was grinning and laffin with us. I remember Major Lance (Monkey Time) was on that show as well as Fontella Bass (Rescue Me).... It was like 5:00 p.m show on Saturday afternoon and they had another one at 11:00 p.m. My cousin would stay for both shows -- I was chicken so I would go home. My cousin was IN LOVE with Major Lance -- Her sister was in love with PAUL WILLIAMS. In fact, her sister named her first born son - PAUL.... Yep! Lived in a dream and would tell us that "Paul was gonna be her husband"... sigh....
They would have shows from 11:00 am until 11:00 p.m.with all these lineups (during the week even) at the Regal. CUZ WOULD CUT SCHOOL TO GO TO THESE SHOWS and STAY ALL DAY. I was too scurred! tahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! BOY! dem was the daze! When I met Otis Williams I told him that I had seen him at the Regal in Chicago and he broke into a Real BIG smile and said "BOY THOSE WERE THE GOOD TIMES -- Those were the GOOD DAYS"... Ahite Peace!

Yes, Evita and Molly...those were the days! Evita...I wasn't skurred. My Dad use to drop us off at 10am. We were supposed to come home after that 5pm show. He may as well had been talking to the wall. We would stand in that long ass line...wrapped all the way around Terry's Dept Store. Once we got in...we would be way in the back. When that show was over...we would move up...when the next show was over...move up again...til finally we made the front rows. By that time, it was 10pm. We would end up getting home at 1am. My mom would be peeping out the window waiting on us. It was ON then. NO MORE REGAL! It happened everytime they let me out the house. I really don't think they minded at all...cuz if they really didn't want us to go...we wouldn't...trust me. A t least they knew where we were and were relatively safe. It wasn't like it is now. "It ain't even safe no more to walk the streets at night!"

it would seem logical that david was approachable to fans he had a down-to-earth view of dealing with fans from a different generation.i would have loved to meet him and discuss music that would be priceless worth more than an autograph.

in terms of ruffin's apprachability i say if david were still alive it would br easier to have a conversation with him than the new artists out today.I read in the Import collection that the guy who wrote the liner notes had a chance to speak to him for ten minutes and get autographs i know che appreciated all his fans.

Hello Abe! Back in the day, most of the artist were approachable. You didn't see the body guards and huge entourage's . Those artist seemed to understand it was the Fans that helped make them stars.

Abe, David Ruffin was very easy to have a conversation with. David Ruffin loved to talk. He was so charismatic and he knew how to make people feel appreciated, and it was no act. He did appreciate his fans.
