Board or should I say Superior Ruffanites!!!
In the classic 5 era,, who sung majority of the leads??
Did David and Eddie share leads?
Or did all three tenors (David, Eddie, and Paul)shared duties??

Ruffin,Eddie and Paul sang leads on different songs. However after "My Girl" Ruffin sang the majority of the leads. That's why Ruffin wanted the name change.

Molly, add to that...all groups were Somebody and The Somebodies. Why shouldn't the name be changed? Especially when Tempts rose to the top. It makes me think certain folk didn't want David to have the recognition he so rightly deserved. It really doesn't matter now, tho...cuz people are still associating David with The Tempts and recognizing him as the greatest one...even after 21 Tempts, he is still the best...better than the rest!

Bees you hit :bonk: the nail on the head! There was some professional rivilary going on inside the group. Otis knowing this used it to block the name change. Here it is David Ruffin took them ALL to number one. There were other talented members,but David was The One. Nobody in the group should have been opposed to the name change,but some besides Otis did. Nobody was complaining when "My Girl" hit and stayed on the charts. Nobody was complaining when they were selling out venues. Nobody was complaining when David continued to sing Lead on their following hits. But there was a lot of complaining when it came to the name change. A lot of complaining. I agree with Bees doesn't matter now who said and did what. But Otis did have some supporters. This happens to be something I know!

This happens to be something I know! ITA, Davey! I also think that Otis also had personal issues with Ruff. I think there was alot of jealousy & resentment that David & Eddie, as well, got most of the attention. O had made some snide comment after the miniseries aired, that it seemed that David, besides having a drug problem & 'ego' , that he wanted 'all the women'( ). WTF?? These women wanted Ruff! It wasn't David's fault! And even if this was the case, why it be any of his business whom David wanted?? See, it's comments like these that are part of the reason why some people cannot take O seriously. There is some serious jealousy issues going on with him, in particular when it comes to the Ruffman.

Der68, Bee, Mrs. Molly, and Common,,,
Who else block the name change Eddie, Paul, Melvin or BG??
It seems to me Eddie and Paul were going to take sides not matter what... and Melvin (poor lad) was going to side wup with partner'n crime O.
Yes, David took care of the finance of the Tempts and the brothers said that was not enough you are just like the rest of us... A slap in the back...
What bothers me about this is Eddie side with David but why not Paul??? Why Paul did not see David point a view consider he was a lead singer..
Just a thought...

You also have to relize almost all the somebodies & somebodyelses ... Their lead disapperaed and never got nowere ... WITH THE exception of smokey .... Were did Ms. Ross go? ... To jail for being drunk ... I can see why DR wanted the change ... But I for one am Happy it didn't get done and he had a solo carrear full of great songs ;
