Board...
Today music industry, an artist can cut a song in two weeks shoot a video for the mass audience, and do little or none promotion. The DVD can sell with out the artist leaving his/her back door.
Back in the day,, how often did the tempts tour for the mass audience to hear their songs days, weeks, or months???

The artist from back in the day toured alot. I can remember some tours lasting as many as 20-25 days. 2 maybe 3 shows a day. The Motown Revue toured a whole lot.

I think they spent the majority of their time on the road. It seemed like they went from one city to the next. It's definitely not like it is now. The artists of today are lucky...it was a lot more grueling back in the day...without the comforts they have now...like the comforts of an air conditioned plane ride compared to a hot bus or station wagon...not to mention the fabulous hotel suites of today compared to some of the places Blacks were forced to stay...and the issue wasn't money either.

Gosh Mrs. Molly that is a lot of touring.. Now I understand what these young people did to make Gordy's dream comes true. I don't how he can ever repaid them for their dedication to the Motown sound.

Bee/board that is why I ask the questions young fans need to put things in contents before they start judging the entertainers' life’s.
The young fans don't have clue what 5 young talent men went through to be legends. We are only looking at the end products. IF David, Eddie and Paul were alive, the stories they share with will be priceless.
That is why I have no RESPECT FOR DOUGH DOUGH O all the things the man could have said he writes a book about nothing. Who cares how many women he saw that night.. Who cares David had problems,,, Who cares Paul and Eddie had a disagreement. Choirboy makes me sick...
The fool could have told the darn truth (sorry Mrs. Molly and Der68) What is was like going to the south performing? What was it like someone to tell you NO you can't eat or sleep here?
Ending the movie and book with a history lesson, never give up on your dreams no matter what adversity you are facing... The movie and book would have sold millions.

Now that is the truth! There were times when you couldn't sit down and eat, your food was carry out. Touring in the South was tough. Seperate rest rooms White/Black. The entertainers from back in the day put up with a great deal of racism and discrimination.Like Bees said it wasn't a money issue either.

Bees and Molly have told the truth. Some of these entertainers were treated very badly. Good enough to entertain, but not good enough to be treated like human beings. I have heard some stories that still make me sad and mad as Hell! These younger entertainers probably still encounter racism, but they have it so much better then the ones that came before them.

Thanks Mrs. Molly and that is why I asked the question so Young fans can get a good history lesson of what really happen. Like I said before, we are enjoying the end product of their success. That is why I am ready to fight when people want to judge David, Eddie and Paul we can never imagine the roads these men took. The strengh and courage to leave their home town go to Detroit to make your dreams come true. Racisms were all time high.. not to mention people taking advantage of their talent (O). No one gave David anything the man had talent... otherwise he would never became lead singer of the tempts. 4 Stars David, Eddie, and Paul...you done well in your life.. You have done what few people get an opportunity to do.. do what you enjoy doing....

That sounds really grueling! How much time would the artists have time off in between touring? How many times of year would they would be on a 20-25 day tour? I am surprised that no one got sick!! BTW, board I am in the process of relocating to another state, and it is grueling so I have very little time to post these days. I plan on being an active poster once I get settled in.

Hey (((Der68)))! I have read in many of the Motown artists memoirs on how bad they were treated such as not being able to get a hotel room for many days to take a shower, being forced to eat sandwiches, cookies, sardines out of a can, popcorn, etc. because they would not be accepted in a restaurant and being forced to use the bathroom outside using a hose and pail because they were not allowed to use the service station bathrooms! Yes, the young artists today have never had to endure the degration that the Motown artists in the 60s had to do endure. It just makes you love and appreciate them that much more as people in addition to what they have contributed to the music industry.
