QNew the only time I saw the 4 Tempts was on a clip Common sent me. They were singing back up for Mary Well's Two Lovers. They didn't record with 4 I don't think.

I don't remember seeing the 4 Tempts. I did see them with Al Bryant. Next thing I know David Ruffin was a Tempt.

Was Al a good singer? I heard he was pretty good. I heard he was. I don't remember hearing Al on any leads. Eddie sang lead on "Paradise" and Richard Street sang lead on "Come On" by O and the Distants. I think before Ruffin Eddie and Paul shared the lead's. Eddie said they were the better singers then O and Melvin. He didn't say much about Al.

Now, Queenie...I know me and Reggie answered this question for you before. You are too young for that! Four Tempts performed at The Apollo backing Mary Wells. Reggie said he never recalled then recording with four members. I just looked at that clip the other nite and noticed for the first time, they did not sound that good without Ruffin. I am sure they were glad to have him onboard. Yall know Ruffin is the reason for the Classic 5 sound!

When Ruffin left, Dennis performed with Eddie, Mel, Paul, and O. Then Paul left, and Richard Street replaced him...I don't know what the hell for. Eddie left and then came Rickey Owens...then Damon Harris. Exactly what is your question? Since, David joined, there have always been 5 Tempts performing together...with the exception in later years when Mel was ill and Otis was in the process of replacing someone. During the time For Lovers Only was recorded, they performed with 4 members sometimes.

Bees you are right Ruffin is the reason for the The C5 Tempts sound. Ruffin singing solo before and after the Tempts need their background vocals and The C5 damn sure needed his lead vocals. Bees are we having a 4th of July celebration? ?
