We all know The Tempts first grammy was in 68 for Cloud 9. My question is this. Do you think The Tempts were over due for a grammy, and My Girl,Since I Lost My Baby,You're My Everything,It's Growing,Get Ready,Don't Look Back, and a few other songs had more to do with their winning then the song they actually won for? OR Do you think Cloud 9 was that good? Not taking anything away from Dennis, but I don't think Cloud 9 ranks anywhere close to some of the C5 former hits. Also I read on one of the Tempt boards a poster claims that Dennis Edwards voice is responsible for them being inducted into the HOF. To that I say Please!!!! Ruffin,Eddie,Paul and Melvin got them there. Dennis IMO deserved to share in that award, but come on now! he wasn't the reason they were inducted! That was going to happen with or without Dennis Edwards!

guees i can put my 2 cents in here............
well i personally do think that they were long over due for a grammy however i donot beleive that "Cloud 9" could have or should have done it ,i mean denise is a good singer, but when i think temptations and when ever i want to see or hear the temptations, iam thinking Otis,Melvin, eddie,Paul, and David,to me thats my preference, david brought a lot to the group with that voice and his entertainment, i mean so did denise in his own way ,but shoot i dont think "cloud 9" is even close to catchy *IMO.......i mean if we want to get down to the nitty ,denise voice was good, and david was good too but denise voice did NOT have anything to do with them being inducted to the HOF.......come on most of their wonderful marvelous songs are from when David was in the group ,iam suprised "My girl " didnt gaurantee them a grammy........just my thoughts , ..come on family what yall think about this?..............

'My Girl' definitely should have won a grammy but this 1965 we are talking about. Motown was a small fish in a big ocean and while Motown did get nominations here and there, it was "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" that gave Motown & the Tempts their first grammy. 'Cloud 9' was nominated but it did not win. In general, black artists of the '60s were changing soul music and the industry that longed ignored them, were starting to take notice. You have remember, some folks thought Motown was a fade. No one knew that it would have the kind of musical legacy that it has now.
Folks have to remember that one way or the other, Tempts were going to get a grammy. David Ruffin set the stage for that. After all, David's voice was to be originally featured on 'Cloud 9' before he was dismissed. So, I really don't think that only Dennis' voice contributed to the group being in the HOF.

I think they were overdue for a grammy simply because cloud 9 couldn't touch the C5 songs..don't get me wrong Cloud 9 is a good song. Dennis wasn't responsible for them being inducted they were going to be inducted anyway.

More and more I am believing that Ruffin DID record Cloud 9,(I have heard that rumor for years) and after he was fired they did a do over with Dennis's voice. I don't think Dennis voice had anything to do with The Tempts being inducted in the HOF. I think they had to include Dennis because of the grammy's for Cloud 9 and Papa.I believe the C5 cinched their spot in the HOF without Dennis. Although I am glad he was included.

Ruffin did orignially record Cloud Nine. I believe that had Motown been on the up and up with their records and such, My Girl would have won an Grammy or two. Clooud Nine was deserving of an Grammy but Cloud Nine should have been the 15th or 20th grammy awarded to the group.

Ms. Molly DER set the group up to win a Grammy... Dennis'voice was the reason group won a grammy "please" (who ever made that dumb ass statement needs to come to the Palace to receive a WHOOP ASS) IMO all DER's leads should've won 10 GRAMMYS instead of stupid one for that ridculous song Cloud Nine! My Girl, Since I lost My Baby, You're My Everything are the bomb and will always be reconized the greatest Tempts songs in the history....btw: when O and Limits have to promote group concerts who face appears the one only DER...I will not take anything away from EJK and PW but DER is the reason why the tempts continues bring people to concert seats.

But I don't think Cloud 9 was as grammy worthy,as some of their earlier songs. I think that award was polictics at it's best. They couldn't keep over looking The Tempts. I agree that Cloud 9 should have not been the first Temptations grammy. That grammy was long overdue.

Someone should tell those posters on the other Tempts board that the controvery with the HOF involved whether DE should be recognized or not. The controversy never included the C5. Some folks just love to rewrite history.

I so agree! Ruffin was the driving force behind that grammy. He drove them there...but when they pulled up...Dennis got out of the limo! ;D They should have gotten a grammy for My Girl. I think they could not deprive them any longer. How could they not be grammy worthy with Smokey producing? Who is more grammy worthy...Smokey or Whitfield? I say Smokey...hands down. I think Norman was a little boy in a man's body...coming up with Cloud Nine, Psychedelic Shack, and Runaway Child. It would have to take a voice like Dennis' to pull that off. I think Dennis deserves credit for that...but that grammy definitely goes to The Classix. ;D

I totally agree.....they should of had many grammies, David should have had some just alone, for he was so superior. No one will ever touch him.....no group will ever come close to Classic5.....only my opinion. Did I read somewhere that David's HOF award was sold on E-bay Or something to that effect? Hope I am wrong, but I swear I did read that a while back somewhere. If that is true, that is a disgrace beyond comprehension!!! Does anyone know? David's voice will be with us always...he was the best. karralyn
