Hello Palace,
Below please find an article titled "Is Eddie Quitting" It was featured in the 11/4/68 edition of Boss Soul Newspaper.
Los Angeles- Is Eddie Kendricks leaving the Temptations?
That's the question on everyone's lips. Eddie Kendricks flew into Los Angeles last Thursday with hi son on what he described as "a vacation".
However, rumors were hot that Kendricks has left the group--and no one knows why.
Motown completely denies that Kendricks is leaving and they may be right "No... Eddie Kendricks has not left the Temptations," stated Junius Griffin, special assistant to BG Jr. He's in California on a brief vacation with his son."
But Eddie Kendircks didn't sound so definte when SOUL talked to him at his hotel.
"I'm on vaction," Eddie said. Then he refused to say whether or not he had left the group.
"Will you perform with the Temptations at then next concert (at the Twin Coaches in Pittsiburg)? SOUL asked Kendricks.
"I won't make a statement...... I can't say.... I'm taking a vacation and I can't say whether I'll appear with them or not..." Kendricks began heistantly.
Just then, the hotel operator interruped the conversation with "Mr. Kendricks, Mr. Paul Williams is on the long distance line and the says it's extremely important."
Just before press deadline, Junis Griffin called SOUL from Gary, Ind., where he was working on another Motown assignment to say that he had just heard Kendricks ws back in Detroit and had b een to the Motown studios that afternoon. A phone call to Berry Gord Jr., in Detroit broung no answer from the Motown chief.
But the show business grapevine is still reporting that Eddie is unhappy as a Temptation and is leaving the group. Whatever the case-- and as SOUL goes to press there is no definite word on whether Eddie has left or not-- it is obvious that there has been concern within the group and it centers on whether Eddie is or is not still a member.
The office word from Motown is that Eddie is still a Temptation.
There is no official word from Eddie Kendricks.
