By MIKE MORRIS Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer
File Faith Evans and husband Todd Russaw in their booking photos Tuesday night.
• Atlanta/South Metro community page Multi-platinum recording artist Faith Evans was in the Fulton County Jail Wednesday, facing drug charges after being arrested in south Fulton County.
The R&B singer and her husband, Todd Russaw, were arrested Tuesday night on North Central Avenue in Hapeville, according to police dispatchers.
Fulton sheriff's Lt. Clarence Huber said Evans was charged with having an improper tag, violation of Georgia's controlled substance act (marijuana) and violation of the controlled substance act (cocaine).
Russaw was charged with possession of powdered cocaine and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, according to Huber.
At a preliminary hearing late Wednesday morning, Fulton County Magistrate Mike Wallace ordered Evans held on $12,000 bond. He set bond at $11,000 for her husband.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for Feb. 11 at the Fulton County Justice Center.
"Speaking for both my clients, these charges are absolutely ridiculous, especially concerning Ms. Evans," defense attorney Vincent Dimmock told reporters after Wednesday's hearing.
"She was never in possession of any drugs," Dimmock said, adding, "she asks her fans to pray for her."
Evans recently appeared in "The Fighting Temptations," a movie starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyonce Knowles.
The recording artist has worked with entertainers including Whitney Houston and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs.
Combs signed her to his Bad Boy label and produced Evans' first album, which included the singles "You Used to Love Me," and "Soon As I Get Home."
Evans earned a Grammy nomination for her duet "Can't Believe" with Carl Thomas, recorded on her third album, "Faithfully," released in 2001.
Evans, who has three children, was formerly married to rapper Notorious B.I.G., who was killed in a 1997 drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.

Hmmmm, okay! Well, the weed charge I can see because she used to mention interviews that she & deceased hubby Biggie, use to smoke weed together. That ain't no shock. But the cocaine & the hubby is hooked too?? Dag! That sounds awful. I hope they can pull themselves together. I feel for her kids!
