Hey everyone! Does anyone have or remember David's first solo LP? I know everyone remembers the title song because it was such a big hit. But did anyone ever get a chance to listen to the whole LP? Your thoughts?

Hey Common. I remeber the album. We bought it th first day it was released. I may still have it,packed up with other stuff. We were so excited about David's first solo project. I think Ever lasting love was a track on that LP. That album sold fairly well to I think. I remember we had people over at our house right after the album was released. We were listening to it and one person said {pharaphrasing} something to the effect of the album was good, but when people heard David, they also expected to hear the Temps in the back ground. He didn't think David could make it as a solo artist.I got so mad, because I was so proud of David.

Hi Common: I bought the album, but I don't remember when or where. Is that the album with I've Lost Everything I've Ever Loved? and Pieces of a Man?

Hey Common! I remember when the album came out. We were ecstatic that David had finally released some solo work. I especially loved My Whole World Ended...it reminded me of him singing with The Tempts. The one song I did not like and still don't is that darned Double Cross. That song just plain old irritated me. I don't know why...just don't like it.

'Allo dere e'rybody! Andy: Yes, those two songs that you mentioned are on the LP. I love Pieces Of A Man. James Jamerson's bassline just dominate this song & David sounds like a man on his last leg. One thing about, David he could definitely give any song a real emotional punch. Molly: Yes, Everlasting Love is featured on this LP. I had read on another board that singer Carl Carlton, whom David helped get back into the music business, was inspired by David's version of the song. CP: You know, I like The Double Cross, the music moreso. It's a very blusey number & I like James Jamerson's playing on this song. The songwriting wasn't too hot but I like the music. My least favorite is I've Lost Everything I've Ever Loved. The lyrics are kinda corny & depressing. But as usual, David just has a way of making a song believable. Another big favorite of mine is Somebody Stole My Dream. The arrangement is nice & poor David sounds like he's gonna cry cause somebody stole his baby from him. Okay, let me stop! ;D

Hi Common: Where did you learn that from? Was it written b/4 or after Otis kicked David out?

Hey Andy! I read that in one my Motown books. The song was originally written for the Tempts but I guess they decided to give to David to launch his solo career. BTW, the backup vocals are done by The Originals, who sang the hit Baby I'm For Real. I don't know if it was written before or after David left. That's a very interesting question. I would guess it was done before he left.

Molly, it sure did sound just like a Tempt song. It would've been nice to hear Paul, Melvin, Eddie & O's harmony on the backup.

I don't know if the Tempts have any more unreleased material in the Motown vaults but if there is, I wonder if the group actually did this song?

You think that Lost Everything sounds like a Tempt song? To me, the harmony arrangement is not "intricate"(that's not the exact word I'm looking for though) enough. I can't picture The Tempts singing this song.
