I also noticed something on this particular album. Almost all the backup vocals are male. I found it ironic. I guess Motown wanted to keep David in the whole Tempts image. Interesting.

Hi Bees Hope you're doing well.as creator of this board and as David Ruffin fanDo you have any thoughts on the SPinners version of"My whole world ended"and as someone from Chicago how do you feel about their version of"Ooh Child"that was done by a Chi-town group the Five Stairsteps?

I've heard both versions of the song from David and from the Spinners. I think the Ruffin version is so much better, no just cuz I'm biased towards Ruffin but really David is the only man singing his heart out. The Spinners were singing it a little lower in key. I mean the Ruffin version was just first, wasn't it? Like recorded first? I hate how people started REALLY copying other beats and songs at that decade. It was so annoying. GENTLEMAN RUFFIN! HE'S THE MAN!

I've never heard the Spinners version either. That's very interesting! I would like to hear their version of this song.

The Spinners also did a version of "I've Got To Find Myself a Brand New Baby", both this and My Whole World Ended were led by GC Cameron the current Tempts lead singer, he does a great job on both, but David's versions cannot be touched. In fact I've Got To Find Myself A Brand New Baby, Message From Maria, and We'll Have A Good Thing Going On are my favorite song from David's first lp.

Abe, now you know which version I like better. It seems to me, The Spinners' version is sort of subdued...David's has more feeling. As far as Ooh Child, nobody can touch that but The Five Stairsteps...who could have been larger than the Jacksons, had they been properly promoted! (Only my opinion)

Hello This is abe ,but even though David can't be replaced or topped by anyone would you say GC's a peer of David to a certain extent, because they're in the same age group and both from Mississsippi and recorded for Motown at the same tim eperiod,Does any fan know if GC was friemds with David?I know he was at least an a\cqauintance.

Hey Common. I remeber the album. We bought it th first day it was released. I may still have it,packed up with other stuff. We were so excited about David's first solo project. I think Ever lasting love was a track on that LP. That album sold fairly well to I think. I remember we had people over at our house right after the album was released. We were listening to it and one person said {pharaphrasing} something to the effect of the album was good, but when people heard David, they also expected to hear the Temps in the back ground. He didn't think David could make it as a solo artist.I got so mad, because I was so proud of David. Mrs. Molly,, to this day people associate David's success as being a Tempt. Fans don't want to see David in any other forum but a Tempt.. I think that is the reason David's solo career did not blow up because Motown did not want to promote David the solo but David and the temptations. I think the man was star quality he did not need four other men to make him DER. It was DER who made the four other men look good.. I love Eddie and Paul but "My Girl" went where??? #1

I have always believed some of the reasons Ruffin's solo career didn't take off was 1-BG didn't promote him.2-Fans saw him as a Tempt. David was "star" quality, but he was a star amongst stars. I love Ruffin but it took Paul Eddie and Melvins harmony's to make My Girl a hit. Ruffin was a more successful as a lead singer of a group, then a solo artist. I have never understood why,but thats the reality of it. Forgive me I left out O.
