Hello everyone! Which DR performance(s) do you enjoy seeing? We briefly talked about David's performances in other threads so I thought that maybe we can do a more extensive discussion. Of course, this is going to be a fun discussion, so let it rip!!

It doesn't have to be just Tempt performances, it could also be his solo performances as well with Eddie K.

Okay...Common. I have quite a few favs. You know the Ed Sullivan show...with them standing on the cylinders...singing My Girl...that is priceless! Ed Sullivan...Don't Look Back...they were on fire...steppin their asses off! I also love the one with Ruffin and Kendricks... Street Gold. I love it when they are singing Just My Imagaination...Eddie has his arm around David...'Every night on my knees I pray'...when David says Oh Lawd! Hell, he almost had me crying...David know he was 'in the moment' on that song. He does the same thing on ST when he's doing Walk Away From Love...he knew he did not like lip syncing. David got too into his performances to try and lip sycnc...that was too restraining for him. I say just give DR the mic and let him go!

Hi Common: I was going to post this question, too. You beat me to it. My one favorite could change, just b/c my favorite song could rotate b/t 4 or 5 of them. Maybe even 7 or 8, or 10- 20. Anyway, I've always liked RAIN and I thought David's performance on the Jonathon Ross show captured on the Street Gold tape was great. The other day I saw a tape which had the Holywood Bowl performance( Jimmy Durante) and the guys did 2 songs, with Paul starting with The Best Things In Life Are Free. He looked great. Then David did RAIN. Those two songs with those two singers left me mesmorized. David always used hand motions well. He was at his best that day, that show. As in life, David's performance forced the eye to watch him and not the guys in the background.

Talk about having great balance. I like that one too. *There is another performance of My Girl that is in black & white. I'm not sure if it was American Bandstand but the guys were doing some serious dancing in that clip. I love how they step in that performance. As a matter of fact, I recall this clip was briefly used in Rick James' Superfreak. * My Girl/I Know (I'm Losing You) on Ed Sullivan is right up there with the medley with the Supremes when it demonstrates David's powerful vocal ablities. David doesn't seem to break a sweat in the My Girl/I Know.... routine but Paul looks like he's on a mission. LOL! I mean, Paul was really working it. If David was the ice, then Paul was the fire. Everytime I watch them, I wonder who's gonna give in first? .......With The Supremes, David just took Diane's head off & you can tell she was PISSED because David gave her a run of her money. I guess David was trying to prove to her that no matter how rehearsed you are, if you ain't got, you just ain't got IT!

I'll be a little more patient next time. Andy, I never thought of what you posted. David did do alot of hand gestures, something "extra", to keep the focus him. I also love the performance you spoke of with the group at Hollywood Palace. Wasn't Paul wonderful? I remember when I was posting on another board & someone had said that when they were watching David sing Rain, it was if David knew that he was on his way out the group. I got the same feeling when I watch his performance.

My Favorites change from hour to hour. Right now one of my fav's is My Girl/Loosing You on Ed Sullivan. They wore the Yellow{I think they were yellow} Tux's. Another is Beauty when David takes off his glasses. Wait, another is the one Andy mentioned on Jimmy Durante DR singing Rain. Hey, Molly, I hear ya! It is a hard choice, isn't it? Especially when David was with the C5. I agree that there was a magic there(Okay, be nice to Otis! ;D ) between all the guys. I guess maybe because all of them were so competitive towards each other, that is the reason that their performances came off so electrifying.

Hello Common: What was good about this show was party it's newness to me. I don't remember seeing it when it came on. But the real kicker was David's gestures at precisely the right moment. They were strong, powerful, and perfectly timed. It was never just his voice. It was also his actions. That' s why he was the greastest entertainer I have ever seen.

Andy: When you mentioned about David's gestures being "perfectly timed", it made me think about what Tony Turner said in his book about David. He said David told him that "Timing is everything". He was so right about that!

Hey der! I didn't know you had some of David's footage too! I have My Baby too but the footage is kinda dark. I wish I could see what the guys were doing. It's the only performance I have of the guys singing this song.

Gives me a feeling I can't explain......She sets my soul on fire... Oh Yeh!!! Thats my tune. ;D ;D ;D Wish Molly would let me dance with Andy on this one ;D ;D .
