David's Departure from the Tempts

Hey Board what was the public reaction when David departed from the Tempts?

Also, did Motown make an public annoucemented or did the fans hear through the grape vine.

New Motown did put out a story saying David Ruffin was leaving for a solo career. The people I knew was excited because we really thought David would be a success. It was later that the truth about his leaving started leaking out. Back in the day group problems weren't discussed in the media like they are today. So I think people believed the Motown story.
