Florence Ballard was the most talented member of the Supremes.Diana Ross couldn't touch her vocally. But Ms.Ross was sleeping with the boss.

Al thought Diana 's moral character could definitely be scrutinized....IMO, with the leads I have just heard with Florence we can not take anything from Diana's voice the girl is a Diva and she could blow her behind off......

Flo could sing, and I always thought she could out sing Diana.Obviously BG and Smokey felt differently, and the rest is history. I agree SL Flo was the most talented of the 3. I never liked Diana's voice, so I was never a fan. But again, Diana was the Supremes and many, many people disagree with me. LOL! Because she is a Diva.

Some Supremes fans say that they really didn't find Flo's voice all that special. That yes, she had a 'big' voice but that does not compensate for talent. While I partly agree about having a big voice doesn't make one a good singer, I think it's hard to judge Flo's voice simply by the quality of the songs she was forced to sing after she left Motown. Not to mention, the Motown style, in particular, didn't 'fit' everybody and I would put Flo in this catergory. Frankly, I don't think having Flo sing leads on some of those 60s Supremes songs would have worked for her. She needed a producer who understood her voice and knew how to work with it. Motown, IMO, just could not do that. If you notice, Motown did not seem to understand how to work with 'big voice' type of singers, i.e. Kim Weston. Flo would have been regulated to the background anyway because her voice did not into the Motown music machinery.

No contest between the Diva Ross and Florence. Florence had the better voice. Long before they were The Supremes, Detroit was talking about Florence Ballard.Everybody knew the girl could sing. I believe Diana had the "star" look and personality. She was a great show-woman,and had all of Motown's support.(ie.Berry Gordy)

I agree Davey...Flo had the better voice but Diane had the juice! I know one thang...Diane sounds horrible on that background in this song...she sounds like a darn scalded cat. ;D But The Boss gives one helluva show...glitter...glitz...and glam!

I agree with you Common had Flo had one of Motown's top notch producer I think she could've been the next Diva. However, since B.G. enjoys everything about Diana Flo's diva opportunities were never going come to the surface!
