Well this isn't about the C5 but I didn't know where else to put it...lol
My top 5:
5: 1990
The last Norman Whitfield produced album until sometime during the 80's when he came back to do one more. From what I've read the recording of this album was rocky, but whatever problems there were didn't affect the quality of the songs. 'Heavenly' is one of their prettiest songs and 'Zoom' has an interesting intro and message. Hell the whole album is cool and interesting.
4: Pshychadelic Shack
The title track alone makes this one a winner. Also included here is the mellow and relaxing 'It's Summer' led by Melvin and the original version of 'War' and the jazzy "Take A Stroll Thru Your Mind. Pure psychadelic crazyness, love it.
3: Solid Rock
First album without Eddie and Paul, but they're replacements don't do half bad. I know a few people I'd like to sing 'Superstar' to lol A cover of 'Ain't No Sunshine' is a highlight here as well. And Damon Harris was the best falsetto the Tempts had after Eddie left.
2: Cloud Nine
First album without David Ruffin. I love him and all, but damn this Dennis Edwards cat really sung the hell out of this album. But also notable here is the fact that all 5 Tempts sing lead on a couple of the songs. I wish they had done this more often during the C5 era. Who wouldn't want to hear David, Eddie, Paul, Melvin and Otis trading off leads like in Cloud Nine or in Runaway Child?
1: All Directions
Adequete title. This sort of reminds me of With A Lot O' Soul in the sense that all the Tempts get a chance to shine here, and they're at their absolute best. You have of course 'Papa', one of their masterpieces, but also songs like "Love Woke Me Up", a beautiful song led by Damon Harris. Or 'Mother Nature' and "Funky Music". There's so much variety here that it never gets old.
You don't have to be as long winded as me but go ahead and share your favorite post C5 albums. ;D
