I just heard from a reliable source that Richard has passed. I can't find any info on the web so keep your eyes and ears open. The source knows Richard very well but I'm hoping that it's a mixup of some sort.

Oh no! I hope it is not true! First Damon now Richard?! Man, I wonder what happened to that book that he wrote or planned to write? This is really sad if it is true!

www.michronicleonline.com/index.php/entertainment/9832-motown-great-richard-street-dead-at-70That old wives tale about death coming in groups of three may be more than just an old wives tale. On the heels of the passing of Temptations singer Otis “Damon” Harris from prostate cancer on Sunday, Feb. 4 at the age of 62, another of Motown finest, another Temptation great Richard Street died Wednesday, Feb. 27. Street who left the Temptations in 1995, after 20 years of singing with the group, was a one of the longest serving members, (only Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin had longer careers with the legendary group. Street and Melvin Franklin were cousins, and Street was reportedly devastated by Franklin’s death in 1995. In 2000, Street suffered from a blood clot in his lung that nearly cost him his life. But following his phenomenal recovery, he committed to continuing to perform in traditional Temptation style to honor the memory of Melvin Franklin, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams. Street was 70 years old. The Michigan Chronicle will post details and arrangements for Street’s passing as soon as they become available

I will always think that Richard was the most fradulent Temptation replacement. Not because he couldn't sing but because he sounded nothing like Paul Williams. Plus, his toupees killed me over and over again lol. I mean no disrespect, I just gotta say what's on my mind and in my heart. I liked Richard's work with The Monitors though, and their version of MG's "Just To Keep You Satisfied" is on rotation on the ol' iPod. RIP Richard Street.

I always thought that singing for Paul was a myth...he sounded nothing like him. I think it was more for Eddie. I liked Richard ...he always seemed to work really hard. He will be greatly missed.

I think you're right, Bees. Richard was more of a first tenor and in no way could ever be mistaken for Paul's gruff baritone. That story never made sense to me anyway. And I swear that I cannot hear Paul's voice on background throughout most of the "Sky's The Limit" LP. So how come they didn't use Richard to sing for Paul on that LP if he was his so-called fill-in? Anyway, Richard seemed liked a hard-working, loyal cat. Man, I was looking forward to his book
