What's up?
I've read that Eddie Kendricks did backup vocals for I Miss You Part 2 on the album 'David Ruffin', but apparently Motown never released part 2 to I Miss You. My question is, was it ever released? Does it exist still, or was it deleted/lost completely? I'd be interested in hearing it. Apparently you can hear Eddie coming in during the very end of the first part of I Miss You, but I can't quite hear him myself.
What do you guys think?

It was definitely Eddie on the backgrounds. His name is credited on David's self titled album. I thought there was a part 1 too. From what I've been told that's just a name for a second version(Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes) had the first. I don't think there was another version by David recorded.

I thought it sounded like Eddie too throughout the song, but I had read some things saying otherwise that have now been proved to be wrong. Thanks dc!

Hmm an even better question....what happened to I Miss You Part 3? Apparently it featured Otis Williams on backup vocals...

Welcome Flameace! Doing a drive by post! To answer your question, there is no part 2. There is considerable confusion as it pertains to this song and its because of the wording. Though it says 'I Miss You (Part 1)', it means that that was the part that David did the remake on. If you grew up in the seventies, we had 45s where if the song was long, they broke it up into 'Part 1 & 2). 'Part 1' on the a side; 'Part 2' on the b side. Sometimes, it would just be Part 1 only. Because 'I Miss You' was 7+ mins, you would probably have Parts 1 & 2 on the single 45. So, in my longwinded way, the producers decided to have David just do the singing part (Part 1) and not the long rap that was on Part 2. Hope that answers your question. ;D

Yes, usually the part 2 of songs was just instrumental and adlibs.
