Rufferino,
Thanks for sharing. I never knew about the possibility of a Temptations musical appearing on Broadway.
I am not really sure as to why anyone would feel there is need for a Temptations musical when Motown the Musical is already on Broadway. I wonder why O is the only one who gets to speak for the Temptations. DE is alive and was a significant part of the group too, so unless a gag order and/or confidentially agreement are in effect, I will never understand why O’s story is considered to be the definitive account. As a Temps fan, I think a different perspective on the Temptations narrative would be refreshing.

I can understand why someone would want to do a musical about the Temptations...although musicals are not really my thing. I think it's pretty clear that O has it locked up re: any input about any of the past history of that group. Interesting that you brought up the gag order idea...could be.
Oh well. Maybe one of these days, DR's kids will get it together and write a book. At the end of the Unsung on David, Jr says "there's nothing written about him as a father, brother, etc"
Well hey Jr!! Get busy!!

Hi Rufferino,
You’re right, O sure does seen to have the Temptations story locked up.
Re Broadway: As long as Motown the Musical is on Broadway, I don’t know whether there is a real need for a separate Temptations story. Orchestra tickets for the Motown show can cost over $100.00 with some seats being sold for $200.00. I am not sure theater goers would be willing to pay that kind of money to see the musical version of O’s Temptations movie when they can see what they think is the complete ‘Hitsville story’ in Motown the musical.
Also, the Temptations movie seems to be on cable at least once a month. I am not sure new and old Temps fans who have already seen O's story on TV, would desire to see it in a musical format.
A couple of years ago, a musical about the Shirelles titled Baby It’s You opened on Broadway. I thought the show was excellent. I really enjoyed myself. The women who portrayed the Shirelles were fantastic singers, the storyline was interesting, but unfortunately it closed within a few months of opening.
Broadway can be a tough nut to crack.

Hey everybody! How's is it going? Long time, no font. O?? Again??? Really? Why??? LOL! 'Ain't nobody going to see O on Broadway'. Like the Motown musical, I hardly see any commercials about it since it debuted last march. I think that show is tanking. O probably got 'inspired' (code word for 'biting someone else's idea) by the Jersey Boys musical. They'll never find someone who can sing as close to David Ruffin. O needs to stay on his little oldies tours and get a grip. Ain't nobody going to see O on Broadway! Later alligators!

Yeah, I hear ya CityStars. As long as Motown is on Broadway, there would be no reason to open the Temps musical, unless it was really different enough, which we all know it won't be with O at the helm. O says this: "However, Williams says the group plans to wait until Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr., gets his own Broadway musical, which is reportedly slated to open in April of 2012, on the boards. "Then, after that, the Temptations will get into action. They haven't even started writing the script, so it's really early," says Williams, who will serve as an executive producer."
I was just wondering whether this was still an active idea or whether it had been scrapped.

Brandy, Otissssss is desperate not to be forgotten. If it means trashing David's name, time and time again, so be it. I wonder if he's gonna invite the deceased members family to his so-called coonified broadway musical??? Otisssssss would make a dollar off his mother if thought badmouthing her could bring in some revenue.
