My baby and I took a trip to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland this past winter, which is something I've wanted to do for a long time. We had a great time, it was worth the hours of driving in blizzards all night long!!
The Temptations were represented in the museum section by 5 suits (I remember them being red, but maybe not) that (I believe) were from the Motown 25 special. I remember being very disappointed in that because I have one of David's jackets at home and I was mad that I'd just traveled all that way to see some Femptation jackets. But the rest of the exhibits more than made up for that (Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, the Tops, etc.)
At the top floor was the actuall Hall of Fame and it was this awesome walkway. The walls were covered in signatures that were lit up and popping out of the wall. I stopped and stared at the Temptations section for a while. Paul Williams didn't have a signature next to his name That was heartbreaking. David's read "Dave E. Ruffin."
The best part, though, was at the end of that hall where there were three HUGE screens that would play little videos of all of the members of the HoF. We walked in somewhere in the early nineties so I made my poor lady sit for what had to be hours waiting for 1989 to come back around. Eventually it came and BOOM there were the Tempts! My Girl was the song that was playing and it was all clips of the C5 (if there were any DE clips I don't remember them). I remember that David's spin/split from Ed Sullivan was given royal treatment and they had a clip of him in the studio singing My Girl. I turned to Myria and told her that the 1 minute long clip we just saw made the trip worth it. She laughed at me for being such a little kid. But the point is, I would recommend the trip to anyone, they've put together an amazing museum in Cleveland!
