OMG!!!! This is tragic! I know Ross probably lost it when she heard this. It was said, though I don't know how true, that she was still in love with him. Very sad indeed!

DIANA ROSS SAYS FAREWELL TO EX: Singer's billionaire ex dies in climbing incident.


Diana Ross and her ex-husband Arne Naess
(Jan. 15, 2004) *Diana Ross is in mourning as she says a final farewell to her ex-husband billionaire Norwegian shipping magnate Arne Naess.
As reported in the UK's Telegraph, Naess died on Tuesday while descending down a mountain outside the wine-producing town of Franschoek, about 50 miles north of Cape Town in South Africa.

Ross's ex announced the end of the marriage in early 1999, when Naess harshly informed an interviewer that they had separated. Diana Ross claimed that she didn't know until her publicist called to tell her. Reportedly, it appeared that she was not greatly surprised. Two weeks later, her record company released her new album "Every Day is a New Day," and most of the songs were about a disintegrating relationship.

"I think he's going through a little bit of a menopause," she reflected. "He's looking for something better or a bigger mountain to climb," reported the Telegraph.

He is survived by seven children: two with his current companion, Camilla Astrup; the two sons of his marriage to Diana Ross; and, by his first marriage to the Swedish designer Filippa Kumlin D'Orey, a son and two daughters, one of whom is the pop singer Leona Naess.
