Hello board This is abe, if you asked David if when you grew up in Mississippi were you ever exposed to country music do you think he might have said"Yes"?

Being raised in the South I know he was exposed to country music. But I agree with DF I think his music style was influenced by Gospel music.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I still felt David could've done an LP with country mixed with a pop/soul feel to them. I think it would've worked for him in the 80s more than the 60s & the 70s. I agree that his audience may not have been ready for that style back then. And I have to disagree with Molly & Davey that BG didn't try to capture a country market. BG had the Supremes record a country & western LP in the sixties & for a brief time, he had a subsidary called 'melodyland' that catered to a country crowd & included Pat Boone. That's my opinion & I'm still stickin to it. ;D ;D ;D ;D

;DRuff wasn't ready for a country album either ;D ;D ;DHe definitely could have sang the lyrics with a pop/soul flavor. But that would not have been a country vibe. You've got to have a little twang to do country music. Ruff didn't have any twang ;D ;D ;D ;D

If I want to hear moanin and groanin I can listen to the blues! ;D I would have sooner spent my dollar on The Mammas and The Pappas...that's my story and I'm stickin to it! ;D
