Since gospel and country music are similar to context and lyrics, did David have any inspirations singing country music??

David could've sang children's nursery rhymes & made them sound good! ;D ;D If David did country music now, he would've been the bomb! He could sing anything! It's interesting that you brought the topic about David singing country music. David actually remaded two country songs in his own style. 'City Stars' which was originally done by Dobie Gray(of 'Drift Away' fame) & 'Statue Of A Fool'(a country singer named Jack Greene claimed he wrote it & won his case in court. However, it was that David claimed the song as his. We'll never know).

I would have loved for David to have sang some country lyric's but with his style of music. Like "You were always on my mind" . Ruffin style.

The chorus went something like this: Day after day I'm more confused Yet I look for the light Through the pouring rain You know it's a game that I hate to looooose Now I'm feelin the strain Ain't it a shame.... Chorus Ohhhhhh, gimme the beat boys And free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock & roll And drift awaaaaaaaaay(repeat 2x).......

I kinda envision David doing country, you know, like Lionel Richie did it. Like you said, in his own style. It could be a mixture of both country & R&B. Do you remember the song 'Sail On' by The Commodores? Something similar in that vein.

QNDF, I agree with you. DR could sing anything. I was thinking too along the lines of Charlie Pride but with a soulful edge. I really do think that David could've pulled it off.
