I had seen that Buster Jones interview before, he is a bad interviewer.
But man! That shot of Eddie on the beach makes him look SOOOO long and thin, wow! Trippy shot. I wish they had the performance uploaded too.

The interviewer wasn't good at all. I watched his other interviews with Bill Withers and Gladys Knight and I couldn't go any further into the clip.
I thought performing on the beach was interesting. If I recall, I think Eddie was also living out in California. The name of the county is escaping me but I think Janet Jackson lives there. Very exclusive and private.

I'm really interested in seeing this episode of Unsung. And if I don't get to see Leonard Caston I will be very disappointed...I'm beginning to think ol' Leonard ain't a real person lol. Frank Wilson should definitely be interviewed as well even if it's only to give light on how Eddie was to write and produce for. I'm thinking Eddie's Unsung is gonna be dry because he was so reserved & private, but he definitely deserves an episode anyway because his solo albums are so bangin' yet so UNSUNG!!

Awww, Duchess, unfortunately, Frank Wilson passed away last year. I think it was cancer or he had a heart attack. I hope the unsung producers were able to interview him before he died.
I agree about Eddie's recordings so I can't understand why Berry didn't promote him. Everybody wants to blame the artists but what is the explanation for Eddie not getting promotion he deserved. Berry's myopic vision of making Ross the center of the universe was to his and the company's detriment. BG never seemed to tolerate a difference of opinion or thought. There really is no reason for Eddie to be Unsung.

Last night's segment of Unsung featured Lou Rawls. I had absolutely no idea he was allegedly abusive to his ex-wife and son. For instance, Lou supposedly broke his son's nose 3 times and he allegedly beat his first wife so badly for three straight hours she needed to be hospitalized. The story of that beating was published in the paper where the headline was something along the lines of "Singer mutilates wife's face".
I don't know if I would consider him 'Unsung' because he seems to have had a stable career, a great deal of financial success and was very instrumental in raising hundreds of millions of dollars for the United Negro College Fund.
However, I do believe he may have been underrated as a singer because often times when people speak about the great singers who were popular in the 1960s, Lou's name is seldom mentioned . But he is one of the greats and could certainly blow. His live version of Tobacco Road is one of my favorites.

Citystars,
I just saw the Lou Rawls and Issac Hayes episodes online. Yes, it was well known that Lou was abusive to his wife and son. Jet magazine used to have articles about his abuse. I also think the son was a teenager at the time when he beat up. I also think jr was on drugs but my memory is foggy about that.
Both episodes were sad IMO because it shows that even when a person triumphs over hardships and tragedy, they continued to suffer from their childhood traumas.

Yeah, it sure is true that unless we face our issues straight on, they continue to haunt us throughout our lives.....I'm pretty bummed about Lou Rawls but I guess not surprised....seems like he kept it hidden. One thing I'll say about David, at least he was pretty out front with all his stuff. Seems more honest, somehow.

Rufferino, I disagree that David was upfront with his stuff. He kept it pretty much hidden, too. I have yet to see an interview where David spoke openly about the dark issues of his childhood. I tend to think that baby boomer generation were taught not to discuss certain things whether it was child/sexual abuse and domestic violence. It just was not addressed openly. Lou's suffering of sexual abuse as a child is obviously the main issue of his violent temper. It was the same thing with Ike Turner. People talked about his abuse of Tina but it is never mentioned that he, too, suffered sexual abuse by female relatives/strangers as a child. I definitely think David fits into this category. If they were all females who suffered sexual abuse and 'acted' out, we would be sympathetic. But when its men, we tend to 'act' with violence towards women. 'Hurt' people hurt people.

If you saw the Unsung program, please give a synopsis of what was said about Eddie. I saw two excerpts on Unsung and I was surprised to hear that Eddie thought (paraphrasing) that BG held a grudge for his involvement with Diana Ross and that's why his career didn't go as far as he thought it would. Hmmm, I believe that part.

Aw man I didn't know Frank Wilson was dead! He wrote some bangin' ass songs. I'll post the link to Eddie's Unsung episode in a different thread if somebody hasn't already done it.
